Sarkis Sakr acted as the General Secretary of a conference held at the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) palace on the 29^th and 30^th of September 2010, aimed at discussing the challenges faced by Arab countries to develop the investments and the steps taken by the Lebanese Finance Ministry to improve the performance of the various sectors in Lebanon.

The main resolutions of the conference included:

• the need to develop sanctions that commensurate with tax evasion crimes;

• the dissemination of the tax culture and knowledge among different social groups in order to increase tax awareness and the use of the media to achieve this;

• the deployment of the tax systems and legislation on the website of the Arab Tax Society; and

• Urging the Arab countries to activate the conventions for the avoidance of double taxation.
